The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15  engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global platform for sharing professional interest. IEI has membership strength of above 0.8 million. Established in 1920, with its headquarter at 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata-700020, IEI has served the engineering fraternity close to a century. During this period of time, IEI has been inextricably linked with the history of modern-day engineering.

In 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains the only professional body in India which has been accorded this honour. Today, its quest for professional excellence has given it a place of pride in almost every prestigiousand relevant 2organization across the globe. It provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting services to the Government, Industries, Academia and the Engineering fraternity, operating through its 125 Centres located acrossthe country and 6 overseas chapters. Besides, IEI has bilateral agreements with about 31 international bodies and membership of another 8 international bodies of the developed nations across the globe. Being recognized as a Scientific and Research Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, IEI promotes the cause of research and development by providing Grant-in-Aid support to undergraduate, post graduate students and PhD Research Scholars of Engineering Institutions and Universities.

About IEI Jamshedpur

The Institution of Engineers (India), Jamshedpur Centre established in 1952. Presently it has over 2200 corporate members and about 7700 technician members (non-corporate members). The Jamshedpur Centre is the most active Centre and has been serving the society in general and the engineering community and plays a significant role in dissemination and proliferation of knowledge amongst its members.

The major activities of the Centre include Annual & Semi-Annual Paper Meetings, National Conventions, Continuing Education courses, Workshops, National and International Seminars, Symposia, Prizes and Awards. The centre also gets engaged in the regular basis for celebrating World Telecommunication & information Society Day, World Environment Day, Engineers Day and World Water Day etc. Jamshedpur Local centre also conducted Section A and Section B Examination twice during the year . This Centre organized Creativity Olympiad for School students at Jamshedpur region in 2000 and eventually made this a national event from 2001. The IEI premises is in pipeline road Sakchi, which is an important landmark in the city.

About the city : Jamshedpur is in the state of Jharkhand. It is located at a distance of about 250Km and 131 Km from Kolkata and Ranchi respectively. It is well connected to metropolitan cities. Like Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai by Rail. The nearest air destinations to Jamshedpur are Kolkata and Ranchi. In the third/fourth week of January , Jamshedpur has an extremely pleasant weather with an average temperature during the day in the range of 15-20 °C.

IEI holds the International Professional Engineers (IntPE) Register for India under the global International Professional Engineers Alliance (IntPEA). The Institution also awards the Professional Engineers (PE) Certification. IEI in collaboration with Springer regularly publishes peer-reviewed international journal in five series, namely, Series A, Series B, Series C, Series D and Series E covering fifteen engineering disciplines.
